“Not everything that counts can be counted. Not everything that can be counted, counts.” (Alison Wolf, British academic and assessment expert)

All assessment should:
• evaluate what students can achieve
• motivate and set targets
• provide information for future use
• assess the abilities/skills we want to assess and not something else
• have a positive impact on learning
• provide meaningful results
• have a clear purpose
• have expectations that are fully understood by the learner
• provide opportunity to demonstrate the learners depth of knowledge
